Matthew Craven 'History is Written by the Winners'

Through painting, drawing and collage, Matthew Craven explores both traditional and contemporary processes of re-appropriation and formal manipulation of images.  By experimenting with materials and methods Craven creates a narrative that explores indentity in a way that is closely aligned with that created by Mexican wrestlers, who are also referred to as Lucha Libra's.

My work transforms traditionally formal decisions such as the use of colour, pattern, and apppropriation - into opportunities to create new characters, develop sub-plots, and convey symbolic meaning.
